The Griffon women’s golf team finished up their fall season at the Fall Central Regional Championship hosted by Henderson State in Hot Springs, AR. It wasn’t quite the finish they were hoping for after windy conditions interfered with their solid start. As a team, the Griffons started off tied for 8th and just a few shots off the lead after the first round. The wind knocked them down and the Griffon’s finished 14th with a team score of 630 (+54), but there was still plenty of good play from the Griffons.

In round one of the championships, Senior Anna Bech led the Griffons with a great round. Bach started off the championship with a 73 (+1). She sank 4 birdies in the opening round and was tied for ninth after the first day. However, the wind during round two impacted Bech’s play. She carded an 82 (+10) in the second round. Bech finished the championships at 155 (+11) which secured her a tie for 36th.

Sophomore Allycia Gan was the only Griffon to gain some ground on round two. Gan started off with a 78 (+6) in round one but turned it up on round two. Gan shot a 74 (+2) on round two. The round two performance shot her up the leaderboard to a tie for 23rd. She was the highest placing Griffon.

The remaining Griffons had tough luck in the second round. Florence Phan finished tied for 61st with a score of 161 (+17). Junior Madi Vine and sophomore Julie Hofmanova both finished tied for 69th with scores of 163 (+19).

The men’s golf team will be looking to keep the ball rolling after a great finish at the home-hosted meet. Both the Griffons and the Griffon B teams were competing in the Missouri Western State University Holiday Express Invitational. The Griffons finished 3rd overall with a team score of 582 (+14) while the Griffon B-team finished 7th with a team score of (+24).

The Griffons had two top-20 finishers. Senior Tom Buffington had a very solid couple of rounds of golf and finished with a score of 139 (-3). His great play boosted him to a tie for 3rd place overall. Junior Jett Simmons also finished in the top twenty for the Griffons team. Simmons finished with a 148 (+6). This boosted him to a tie for 19th place overall.

The Griffon B-team was highlighted by a top-ten finish from freshman Brooks Baldwin. Baldwin opened up the first round with a stellar 69 (-2). He cooled off a bit for round two and finished with a total score of 143 (+1). Baldwin finished the invitational with a tie for ninth place overall.

The Griffon men’s golf team has their last tournament of the fall season this week in Hays, Kansas.
